For One close to My Heart

What shall I say of you so close to heart,
Whose honeysweet echoes still fails not to sooth me,
Whose beloved touch still rouses me afresh from hurts,
But who now has passed beyond many a fair land?

Remember the first day of our school we had,
when I was scared-stiff at all the new sights around?
Then you evolved from the crowd and extended your gentle hand,
and with sweet words you beckoned a golden friendship.

Evoke the day when we had to compose about our “best friend”,
and extraordinarily, we both wrote about the other!
The twilight days those were full of mirth and glee of no end,
Like the sweet smell of the lingering rain.

Like bosom brothers we were, the best of pals.
Was there ever a moment we were not together?
They thought we were inseparable! But did we know,
Dear One that our paths are away from the other?

Then came the fateful day when we had to leave school,
I felt like being scattered like an atom in an explosion.
But still I bore aloft my sullen grief; who wishes to be seen a fool,
Even though your memories were crashing down like a waterfall?

The leaves have fallen many a time now,
and wintry frost froze the dead undergrowth.
I feel you still whispering sweet words close to my tired ears.
Whose beloved touch still rouses me afresh from my hurts
but who now has passed beyond many a fair land.

Another Comment, by Calenaldawen: "No, For One Close to My Heart is perfect yet. And yes, there could still be lots to develop. But it's not just the words that make a poem great. What's also important is the meaning. And with that you have really succeeded here. I think it's awesome that you dedicate a poem to your friend. And it's very brave of you to share such a personal poem with others. I'm very sorry to hear your friend passed away. He surely would be very proud of you if he could see this..."

Some comments to my poem below, Atlantis- CoP, by pals from LotrPlaza (http://www.lotrplaza.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=221661&KW=From+the+Shadows&PID=6497497)!

Vinca- "Your ahead of me, I haven't ever opened a poetry thread! (I'm not good at poetry) I like your poem though, its pretty! I'm not much of a reviewer, so don't expect long reviews from me, but I love it! Good work ."

Silver Dragon- "Oh, I loved it! You're very brave for opening a poetry thread, none of mine's near as good as this...Atlantis has always fascinated me anyway, and you did a very good job of telling your story--It's very pretty. .."

Arien - "ah Atlantis! The topic has held a fascination for me as well (in fact, my current poetry thread was inspired by Atlantis!) I found your poem to be nostalgic for childhood, as well as a lost realm of pure beauty and security achieved through military victory. The repeated couplet was very effective in communicating the sense of wistfulness.Nice work!"

Atlantis- Child of Poseidon

Hello everyone. This is my poetry thread. Welcome here, and rest your weary selves! Allow the sweet words of poetry ease your minds! Without furthur ado, let's begin!

Atlantis-Child of Poseidon

I remember in my youth I used to play in your meadows,
I was carefree, innocent and my heart did hold no shadows.
I remember how oft I ran up Poseidon's Hill,
And before his jade statue in reverence did I kneel.
I prayed with fresh garlands,"Bless my loved ones with long lives,
And for my beloved land, succour it from all strifes".

Oh my Atlantis, O Child of Poseidon, where into the depths have you gone?
Know that I seek thee, with silent tears I awake every morn.

I remember in my youth, I sailed the vast Seas with dear father,
And beneath the silver halo, our ships went like a feather.
I remember our mighty undefeated troops,
trampled the Earth where He did lead,
With flying chariots and fiery darts, all else before them fled.
Even to the jaws of Death, readily fell both man and steed,
And in our happy times, our halls overflowed with sweet mead.

Oh my Atlantis, Child of Poseidon, where into the depths have you gone?
Know that I seek thee, with silent tears I awake every morn.
